There is a place in the Ebro Delta where nature and agriculture coexist in perfect balance. It is a little-known area, far from the busiest routes, that has become a haven for biodiversity and an example of how conservation and human activity can go hand in hand.
On this 90-minute guided experience, we will explore the Riet Vell estate on foot—a unique setting where you will discover the history of one of the Mediterranean’s most fascinating landscapes. Along the way, we will learn how the Ebro Delta was formed over thousands of years, how the river has shaped the land, and why its wetlands are vital for nature conservation.
We will walk among organic rice fields, where you will experience firsthand this sustainable farming model and its significant contribution to conserving the Delta’s flora and fauna. We will also discover the valuable work carried out by SEO/BirdLife and their team of volunteers in managing the Riet Vell lagoon—a site designed to provide shelter, food, and breeding grounds for hundreds of bird species.
From the observation points, and with the help of binoculars, we will enjoy watching flamingos, herons, shorebirds, ducks, and many other species, while learning to interpret the landscape and understanding the close relationship between water, rice cultivation, and biodiversity.
More than just a simple birdwatching route, the Ebro Delta’s best-kept secret nature reserve offers an experience of landscape interpretation that allows you to discover the most authentic, sustainable, and little-known side of the Ebro Delta.
This activity takes place on foot within the estate and covers a total distance of approximately 500 meters over flat terrain, making it suitable for everyone. Participants must make their own way to the estate.
