Textile printing is very interesting, but when that textile is silk, the activity becomes one of the most relaxing and therapeutic there is, since due to the concentration it requires and the sensations it transmits, it is an ideal activity to combat stress!! There are different techniques to paint silk; in this case, we will practice the gutta technique. Gutta (Gutta-percha) is a natural, thick, gummy, rubber-like resin, which is extracted from a tree called Pallaquium and is native to Indonesia. The first step of the process will consist of extending our 55 x 55 cm handkerchief on a wooden frame, so that the silk does not come into contact with any surface. Once the silk is taut, we will make a freehand drawing that will then be traced over with the gutta, in order to create the reserves and prevent the uncontrolled sliding of the dyes. After applying the gutta, we will let it dry and then proceed to paint with water-based dyes. Finally, the dyes will be fixed with an iron and then the handkerchief will be washed to remove excess dye. It is not necessary to have drawing knowledge. If you love crafts and want to live a truly therapeutic experience, come and experience the relaxation and sensations that painting on silk produces!!
